Blue Ruin/Green Room
Netflix has announced they will distribute writer/director Jeremy Saulnier’s next movie, "Hold the Dark". I'm excited to see that after the success of his last two films. Blue Ruin, 2013, USA When Dwight (Macon Blair) finds out the man who murdered his parents is getting released from prison, he decides to take matters into his own hands and seek revenge. Similar to my "The Wave" review, this is just an average man without a very particular set of skills. Dwight finds himself way over his head in many situations, but needs to find a way to avenge his family. ******The most important thing to note about Blue Ruin, is that “Buzz” from Home Alone is in it. Green Room, 2015, USA A punk-rock band, looking for any gig they can get, unknowingly book a job performing for neo-nazis. Their first song does not go over so well. After the show, the band heads to the green room and witnesses a murder. The owner of the club doesn't want the cops around so he holds the band hostage. If someone happens to get in their way, while trying to escape, then they may get a guitar to the skull. Both of these are “edge of your seat” thrillers that keep your attention the whole way. Tension is high from start to finish. Blue Ruin was made for only 420,000 dollars. It's remarkable how well done this movie is, considering some movies can reach a 200-million dollar budget and be absolute garbage.
