Kong: Skull Island 2017 USA . "King Kong ain't got shit on me" Alonzo Harris-Training Day There have been 3 King Kong movies and all three end up with beauty killing the beast. This one is different, so I was excited to see a new spin. A extraordinary talented cast staring Brie Larson, Tom Hiddleston, John Goodman, Sam Fucking Jackson, John C. Reilly. In the early 70's a team of scientists along with military explore an unknown territory known as Skull Island. Where you guessed it, they find King Kong and other gigantic creatures. This Kong is listed at 100 feet tall which is twice the size as older versions. This was a completely mediocre movie. There was good CGI and there was bad CGI. My biggest problem was the directing by Jordan Vogt-Roberts. There were too many quick cut shots and unnecessary shots. Predictable/corny sequences like Victor saying "There's no way I'm getting on that helicopter" cut to him getting in a helicopter; Sam Jackson having a staring contest with Kong and the out of nowhere matrix style sword action from Hiddleston. John C. Reilly was the best part of the movie along with Brie Larson and the island people. The island looked cool; especially the northern lights style sky. The soundtrack gets an easy 10 out of 10. I bashed director but his last movie Kings of Summer is one of my favorite coming of age movies. A review of that will be up soon. Vogt-Roberts style worked for that movie but it didn't work for this.
