Land of Mine

Land of Mine 2015 Denmark Land of Mine was nominated for best foreign picture at the Oscars this year, and is set during the World War II era. After Germany surrendered, German prisoners of war were handed over to the Danish army and forced to clear over 2 million land mines on the beaches of Denmark. Alot of these POWs were just teenage boys, barely trained, who would poke holes in the sand as they crawl along the beach. Once found they have to disarm the explosives. This was a very good movie, building suspense throughout on and away from the beach filled with mines. It's not just a movie with explosions though, it's also a character piece that focuses on a few boys. Some are optimistic about returning home, but others know that's not going to happen. Sargent Rasmussen (Roland Moller), who started off as the hard ass officer, begins to feel sorry for the boys...but that sentiment quickly changes after a failed day on the beach. The acting from everyone was stellar, showing a ton of range from anger to sorrow.
