Manchester by the Sea 2016 USA Manchester follows Lee Chandler (Casey Affleck) a lonely, depressed handyman. When his brother Joe (Kyle Chandler) dies, he needs to go back to his hometown and watch over his nephew Patrick (Lucas Hedges) since the mother is not in the picture. Lee has a hard time being back home, with the chance of running into his ex-wife Randi (Michelle Williams). With the use of flashbacks we see the reason why... and it's worse than you could have imagined. The best scene of the year in any movie is probably between Lee and his ex-wife towards the end of the movie. It was so powerful. It really is a sad story, but there are comedic moments that this movie needed to break up the melancholy. The back and forth between Lee and Patrick was perfect. You felt the pain in Casey Affleck and Lucas Hedges definitely earned his best supporting actor nomination. The writer/director Kenneth Lonergan only has a handful of credits in the past 15 years so hopefully he makes another movie soon.
